It’s a Wrap, May!

“It gets worse before it gets better,” that’s how I felt about the month of May. If it were a competition for the busiest month (yet), then May definitely has the crown. It even got to a point where we needed to double-check our calendars to avoid schedule conflicts, especially when booking appointments with a doctor. Suffice it to say that we were almost never “home” on weekends in May, and I’m just about ready for this month to be over.

Gotcha It’s a little gloomy today, but a great day to be alive nonetheless ☁️ #shotoniPhone7Plus

At the beginning of the month, Roan surprised me with something special. I’ll be the annoying person for even mentioning it, but I won’t say anything more. (Hint: You may or may not notice it, though, if you’re keen enough.😉 Haha can it get more vague than that?) Anyway, we spent our first weekend with our main people—Ron, Jan, and Adler—only this time, Jan’s best friend, Jov, joined the crazy bunch! Here’s a little trivia: Jan and I apparently share a small circle of friends or acquaintances because I know Jov from college! She’s a flight attendant and only in town for the weekend, so on her first day back in SoCal, they drove to Carlsbad to see the Flower Fields in full bloom. As much as we’d love to share the experience, however, Roan and I chose to hang out by the Carlsbad Cliffs instead because pollen allergies. We just had brunch by the time we met up with them, so we simply kept them company while they had lunch at Burger Lounge. (In case you’re wondering, it’s one of the best grass-fed burger joints in the West Coast! Not a big burger fan, but seriously.)

Jov wanted to buy a skateboard, but instead of taking them to the outlet next to the Flower Fields, we took them to the Outlets at San Clemente where she found her Star Wars-themed long board. Being the spontaneous couple that we are, Roan and I agreed to drive all the way back to their house to hang out with them longer. We booked a night at a nearby hotel and did some last-minute shopping at Target for basic toiletries and sleepwear to change into. It was definitely one of the best nights we’ve had in a while.

Graduate of BS Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix – San Diego

The following week, Roan finally graduated from college. He had an Associate’s Degree in Automotives, but he didn’t work on his Bachelor’s until he got out of the military. I encouraged him to take advantage of his GI Bill while he can, so he took a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Most people our age graduated from college ten years earlier, but he still did it, and I couldn’t be more proud (literally teared up when they started marching on)!

San Diego, the beautiful ✨ What lovely weather we have today 🌤

I failed to make lunch reservations after the ceremony, but we were lucky to have been accommodated at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse. When asked whether we wanted to sit inside or outside, Roan and I essentially chose outdoor seating because it was such a gorgeous day. I mean, how could you say no to this lovely view?

On Mother’s Day, my brother- and sister-in-law took their mom out, so Roan made sure that we bought her a present since we also planned on shopping for Ron’s [belated] birthday gift and Adler’s baptism gift that weekend.

On May 12th, Paramore released their fifth studio album, After Laughter. Being the Paramore fan that I am, I pre-ordered some Paramore merchandise and registered to TicketMaster’s Verified Fan system in order to get first dibs on concert tickets as soon as pre-sale commenced. On the day of the pre-sale, I couldn’t get tickets even with the verified fan code, and looking at how much ticket prices are at StubHub really got me frustrated. All these on top of existing server issues at work that my boss sent me home to take the rest of the day off. Roan drove me home, and I took a nap as soon as we arrived. Later that afternoon, I decided to take Roan to the beach to shake the exasperated feeling off of me. We went for a semi-hike/walk up and down the hill twice until I’ve exhausted all negative feelings inside me. Sure enough, it was all I needed.

My prayers were answered the following morning when I finally copped concert tickets via the AT&T Pre-Sale! You have no idea how relieved I was to still have that option instead of trying my luck when general tickets went on sale last week. If this doesn’t show how dedicated I am to the band, then I don’t know what is.

Welcome to the Christian world, Baby #AdlerIsaiah!👶🏽 We love you!

Remember this baby that I’m currently obsessed with? Ron and Jan invited us to celebrate Adler Isaiah’s baptism with them, even asking Roan to be his godfather! That pretty much sealed the deal between our friendship, and we are so honored to stand as second parents to this adorable bundle of joy!

On Memorial Day weekend, we hung out for the third time this month. Roan and I decided last-minute to save vacation leave days for another time. We both know that we need some quality time off from work and school soon, and a weekend getaway may not be enough.

How did the month of May treat you? Do tell!

  • Congratulations to Roan on graduating 🙂 Age is just a number, and although many people get their bachelors degrees in their 20s, that doesn’t mean people who are older worked any less. I‘m glad you encouraged him and glad he made it to the end as well. He deserves it

I love the spontaneity between you and Roan – honestly, when I hear about you spontaneously jetting off somewhere, it puts a smile on my face. We all need that in our lives and sometimes it can really brighten up a relationship, especially if you have been busy or stressed out with work. (Also, amazing what a little bit of light exercise can do for that too.)

When you really love a band you want to get tickets STRAIGHT AWAY. If I was as big a fan of Paramore as you are, I would have jumped on the pre-sale immediately. I also get super bummed out when I miss a pre-sale for a band I like! Then I’m stuck with general release tickets and usually good seats or VIP tickets go super quickly.

It’s definitely a great honour to be asked to be the godparents of a child! 🙂 Can’t say I’ve been there but it’s just, you know, one of those things, that shows how special you might be to someone.

    • Roan said thank you! 🙂

We are definitely making the most of the time we have left for ourselves, before we start our own family. We might as well enjoy our own company while we can! Hahaha! And you’re right—it does make for some light to moderate exercise, too!

I wanted to get the VIP tickets, but they’re all sold out! I’m hoping the one I got are good enough because I really want to have the best concert experience like we did when we last saw them in May 2015!

That’s true, and I always keep in mind that when the time comes for us to choose godparents for our child, we must discuss it thoroughly because they’ll be standing as second parents to our child(ren) if anything bad happens to us!

  • Congrats to Roan on graduating! Such a huge accomplishment 🙂

I can’t believe you missed out on the Flower Fields, but I totally understand why. I’ve always wanted to go there – my parents took my brothers to Oceanside over spring break this year and I begged my mom to go to the Flower Fields for me (I couldn’t go on the trip due to work) and she didn’t go because of the entrance fee! Hahah.

And ahhh, Torrey Pines <3 It’s one of my favorite beaches, next to Crystal Cove & La Jolla!

    • Thanks, Eena! Oh, no. We can only see the flowers from afar; we both have horrible pollen allergies, so going near the flower field is a bad idea for us. And yes, we were just in La Jolla last Friday! We saw a newborn seal by the cove!

  • Yay! Congrats to Roan on graduating! May felt like it flew by, and it sounds like you were super busy too! Beautiful photos also, seeing your posts makes me want to visit California even more! Ah I’m curious to know what your special gift was, I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled 🙂

    • You know what’s funny? I got the gift before I even had the chance to give him his graduation gift! Thank you, Kasi! I really hope you visit California soon!

  • Congratulations on his graduation!! That’s such an awesome program -in another life, I think I may have aspired to pursue the same! Every roundup you do, you always seem to make the most of the time, and experiences. It’s really inspiring me to really take every moment head on, purposefully, and with a determination to make something special of every day.

    • Thank you, Nichie! Yes, I’ve been more intentional with how I spend my free time (though little) these days. I’d rather spend it outdoors, away from social media (as much as I can) because I really want to enjoy and be in the moment. 🙂

  • Congrats to Roan on his graduation!! Wonderful! You guys really have been going nonstop. I hope a nice break is in your near future and you guys can take those saved up vacation days and do something awesome with them.

    • I couldn’t agree more, my friend! I’ve gotten sick over the long weekend, too, so that’s a sign of a much-needed break soon!

  • Congrats to Roan for pushing through! This is the first Mother’s Day away from my Mom so it’s a bit bittersweet. Also, I don’t know what it is about the end of Spring and all the busyness! It was a rough and busy month for us, too.

  • What a month!! Wow! I’m glad you had some fun, meaningful, and special moments in all the craziness! I love reading about your spontaneous adventures with Roan or friends!

    • We’re pretty much low-key lately as we try to get all the rest and chill days to ourselves, but this girl needs her vacation so bad. Our friends make weekends better! 🙂

    • HAHAHA! ‘Yun lang masasabi ko. Hihi. Thank you on his behalf! Ay, super cute! Siya ‘yung madalas ko ipost sa IG stories or Snapchat. Nakakagigil siya kasama!
