In the Spirit of 4th of July

Happy 4th of July! It’s my first time taking part in one of the most celebrated holidays here in America, and I seriously don’t know what to expect. My Auntie Marie is spending the 4th of July weekend with us, so it should be interesting! Both Roan and I are excited to have her over since, like Dad, she hasn’t been to this part of California before.

I know it’s 4th of July, but I’m shamelessly making an excuse to post a more appropriate entry for Memorial Day (which happened a little over a month ago). These are photos from our quick trip to Mt. Soledad Veterans Memorial in April. (Don’t be fooled by the sun beam; as seen in these photos, it was a gloomy morning when we drove to this place.)

Of course, I needed a photo beside the emblem of The Department of The Army; SunglassesSunnies Studios (similar) / Shirt: Terranova (old, similar) / Hoodie Jacket: American Eagle Outfitters (old, similar) / Boyfriend Jeans: Penshoppe (old, similar) / Sneakers: New Balance 574

This monument was built to honor veterans who served the United States of America. See that wall Roan was leaning on? Every tile in that wall holds a photo of a military veteran and the details of their years of service. Although Roan has only served the US for less than 10 years, it makes me proud that he has two deployments to Iraq under his belt. I’m also grateful that he came home from both tours in one piece.

Random fact: The Mt. Soledad Cross was gated to restrict visitors from going near it. A few years ago, someone attempted to climb the cross, and fell on the ground. Yikes.

What are your plans this 4th of July weekend?
